The Future of Apple Software – WWDC 2011 Keynote

After all the rumors & excitement the day of Apple’s WWDC finally arrived. Only 5200 people managed to be there because the tickets were sold out in two hours!

Three things were unveiled: OS X Lion, iOS 5 & iCloud; Here is a recap of the event starting with OS X Lion’s Top 10 New Features:

 

Multi-Touch Gestures: OS X Lion will integrate more gestures than the current OS like Tap & Pinch to Zoom, Swipe to Navigate, Three finger swipe up for Mission Control, Pinch for Launchpad & more. Also in OS X Lion the scroll bar appear only when you scroll.

 

Full-Screen Apps: for the first time there will be built in, system wide support for full screen apps. You click on the icon located in the top right-hand corner & the app goes full screen hiding both the dock & the title bar, but you don’t have to minimize the window to switch between apps, you just three-finger swipe to the left/right

 

Mission Control: brings together Exposé, Dashboard, Space & Full-screen Apps. Three-finger swipe up to activates Mission Control. On top you find Dashboard, your Full-screen Apps & Spaces; below you find a screenshot of all your open window grouped by application. You can also Quick Look a window by hovering over it with you cursor & tapping the space bar.

 

Mac App Store: comes built into OS X Lion & it is really easy to buy an app; you just login, choose an app, click buy & your new app flies into launchpad. You can also download an app you bought on every authorized Mac no extra cost

 

Launchpad: you can see all your apps in a dynamic full-screen view. You can have multiple pages & easily swipe through them. You can also arrange you apps in folders & to delete you just hold down on the icon until it jiggles & then click the X in the corner just like iOS.

 

Auto Save & Versions: OS X Lion automatically saves your work during pauses & every 5 minutes. OS X Lion will only save the changes as not to take too much space. You can browse through the previous versions of your files to copy any thing you might have deleted & paste it in you current version. To access you just open the menu from the name of the file.

 

Mail: will now also feature a two-columns view, favorites for one-click access to you mailboxes & previews snippets of your emails. They will integrate more powerful Search features with suggestions. A new feature called Conversations will arrange threads in chronological order & will remove all forwarding text for a clean e-mail experience.

 

OS X Lion will be available in July only from the Mac App Store for $29.99(about €23.56 & £17.86). To be able to run lion your Mac must have an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor & be running the latest version of OS X Snow Leopard.
