Apple CEO Steve Jobs Resigns

Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs, the co-founder and CEO of tech giant Apple Inc., announced Wednesday that he is resigning immediately after years of health problems. The letter of Steve Jobs:

To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve has made countless contributions to Apple’s success however I do not believe that Apple will go downhill from now onwards. Sooner or later we all lnew it had to happen. As he mentioned in his letter he is only resigning from CEO and is going to take a more inactive role, I am sure that as long as there is life in Steve Jobs he will contribute in any way he can towards Apple.

Who is the successor of Steve Jobs? It cannot be anyone else apart from Tim Cook.  “The Board has complete confidence that Tim is the right person to be our next CEO,” Mr. Levinson said. “Tim’s 13 years of service to Apple have been marked by outstanding performance, and he has demonstrated remarkable talent and sound judgment in everything he does.”

“This definitely marks the end of an era,” said Michael Gartengerg, an analyst for Gartner, but he added that “there’s much more to Apple than Steve Jobs.”

Apple Blocks Sales Of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab in EU

As you techies out there may have heard, there is a war being fought RIGHT NOW.  Right beneath our feet.  It’s a dirty war, with men and women loyal to opposing causes flinging themselves against each other in this bloody battle.  Some, myself included, agree that Samsung is “infringing” on Apple’s designs.  Yes, I have been talking about the Samsung vs Apple patent suit.  Others see the case differently, arguing that there are only so many ways to design a tablet.  It seems the designers of the Motorola Xoom didn’t get the memo.  Neither did the designers of Asus’ Transformer. But I digress.

Apple iPad 2: The Summary of a Legend-In-The-Making

There has been a lot of excitement going round about Apple’s special event: their announcement of a successor to the legend that was the original iPad, the iPad 2. To our great surprise Steve himself hosted the event even though he was on medical leave (I simply can’t imagine apple without Steve).

iOS 4.3 Beta 2 has camera apps for the iPad. Surprised? We aren’t.

Here’s a little something MacRumours have noticed.  They’ve discovered THREE new camera apps: Facetime, Camera and Photo Booth.  Now, where does this take us?  Well, if the iPad has FaceTime, it has a front facing camera.  Period.  Need more evidence?  Take a look at the image above.

iPad camera apps discovered in iOS 4.3 beta, nobody surprised — Engadget.

Gizmodo’s got great ideas for the next iPad

Matt Buchanan over at Gizmodo’s gone and done something really great: he’s pieced together all those iPad rumours (the realstic ones, anyway) and drawn up this sketch of Apple’s next device, going from the display right through the the CPU and GPU.  We’ve got his piece here, quoted from Gizmodo here.  Head on past the break to read Matt’s piece.

iPhone 5’s going to feature a radically new design, amongst other rumours

Engadget sources have made some rather spilled the beans on some brilliant new Apple info, and we feel that the way Engadget put it is best.  Here below is the full deal, with the source link in the bottom:

Just before the Verizon iPhone 4 launch, we’d heard from multiple sources — sources like the ones which gave us all that extremely accurate Apple TV info last time around — that the iPad 2 isn’t nearly as close to launch as some have speculated. Apparently, those case and hardware mockups we’ve seen are rather early versions, which means we’re still months out from a proper introduction. It seems likely that the device will land around April (perfectly timed with the 12-month product cycle Apple enjoys). And what about that device? From what we’ve been told, the thinner, sleeker tablet will sport a new screen technology that is akin to (though not the same as) the iPhone 4’s Retina Display and will be “super high resolution” (unlike reports to the contrary). The device will remain at 10 inches but will now feature both front and rear cameras (not a huge surprise), and… there’s an SD slot. That’s right — our sources say with near certainty that the device will have a dedicated SD slot built in (with no traditional USB slot). In fact, see that weird notch in the photo below? That’s where the SD part will be located. What’s most interesting, however, is what’s happening under the hood.
