Frankfurt Motor Show: The Production Cars

While my previous post focused on the highlights of the Frankfurt Motor Show, This post is dedicated to the interesting cars that will hit showrooms within the coming months.

Porsche has finally taken wraps of its latest incarnation of an icon, the 911. Whilst there are no drastic alterations to the design, there are many subtle differences to the exterior to differentiate the previous model to the new model, including new front lights and rear lights, a redesigned front grille, and subtle changes to the overall profile of the car to make it that bit more aerodynamic. There are also new LEDs, inspired by the 918 Concept car. At the back there is a new rear wing that rises at 75mph.

The chassis is made almost entirely made of aluminium, resulting in a 45kg weight loss. The S model features a 3.8l flat six engine producing 400bhp. The entry level on the 911 makes use of a 3.4l engine instead of a 3.6l, producing 350bhp. Another new feature is the introduction of a new seven speed manual gearbox. This car shall be available towards the end of this year.

VW revealed its latest city car, the Up!, to replace the rather dull Fox. The Up! iss powered by a 1.0l three cylinder engine. VW also revealed a variety of alternative versions of the Up!, including a 4×4 version, an electric version and an eco version.
