Rumours regarding a new Maserati SUV have been circulating for a while now, but it seems as though we will be seeing it in the flesh for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The car they will reveal will appear as a concept, but will provide the basis for design for the production model, which will appear some time in 2013.
This new SUV will use the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s platform, but it is still unsure what engines will power it. It seems as though engines will not come from Ferrari, but, as rumours suggest, Maserati will make use of a Chrysler Hemi V8, producing in the region of 465bhp. Rumours also suggest that there will even be a Fiat sourced 3.0l twin turbo diesel engine for the European market.
Maserati seems keen to steal sales from Porsche, creating models directly rivalling the likes of the Cayenne, in a bid to boost sales to 50,000 units per year.
